End times

"End times" is capture along the rocks in Dana Point. I heard some people walking away talking about a dead seal. Upon the sight, I reflected on death and wanted to create an image that was melancholic and harsh but not gruesome or morose. I also wanted to convey the passage of time so I used a 2 second exposure resulting in the blurry and soft ocean. As I was setting up the frame, it occurred to me that it was a lot like Dali's "The Persistence of Memory."

My focus here was to get the right composition with the sunset and horizon weighing on top of the frame and the long exposure. I had neither a timer, tripod or shutter release cable for this shot so I had to use rocks to balance, put my head down by the viewfinder and try to press the shutter release without bumping the camera.

join me

"join me" is a dyptich composed of two shots I captured while walking at night in laguna beach. I was trying to capture a single image of these two couples that conveyed their individual moments and took these two pictures of them. As I reviewed the images though, I found that the best way to convey the relationships was not with either but with both.
